The Dual System of Vocational Education and Training  (VET)

...by definition, dual vocational education and training (VET) i takes place
in at least two places of learning  (therefore dual),
i.e. on the job, in particular at the workplace in a company, and off the job,
such as at VET schools and centres.

...we would like to present a concept that we developed for the DTC:
By definition, dual vocational education and training (VET) is understood in and outside Germany as VET which takes place in at least two places of learning (therefore dual), i.e. on the job, in particular at the workplace in a company, and off the job, such as at VET schools and centres.
This path leads to full vocational qualification. At the workplace in a company, the focus is on teaching training contents related to professional practice, while basic skills and theoretical contents related to the occupation and general education are taught in the VET centre (school).
Active learning within the work process is considered to be the most effective and most efficient form of vocational education and training!
A purely academic approach to vocational training carries the risk of a gap between educational contents and the actual requirements in work situations. Learning in the workplace, on the other hand, fulfils the essential conditions for the development of vocational competence.
Trainees learn their occupations in authentic work situations which enables them to carry out increasingly demanding tasks themselves. The dual system produces a skilled workforce with technical expertise, creating an important foundation for the competitiveness of the economy.
As the practical training within the workplace clearly predominates in the dual system, companies play an important role with regards to contents and objectives.
Upon completion of their training, the trained participants should be given the opportunity to apply their skills within a company and start gaining the necessary practice and experience.
These trained individuals proceed to learn how to handle machinery safely, and they are well prepared for the challenges of new working methods.
Additional quality assurance training sessions are planned for all phases of training.
